background Theo comes from a world that once upon a time was almost torn apart in a war between Gods, humans and demons. It was only through a truce that the world avoided total destruction. Now 1,000 years of this fragile peace later, the war has been largely forgotten and the same mistakes of the past are being made again which has led to a resurgence of demons and monsters that plague the lands. It's during this time that Theo's life began. Theo was born in the floating city of Juno, the capital city of the Republic of Schwarzwald, which is known as a research city and thus has earned the nickname 'City of the Wise One'. It is also the location of the Sage headquarters and both of Theo's parents were Sages. It was because of this that Theo's life seemed set from the get-go. It was expected he would become a Sage like his parents and that he would return to Juno after his training and join one of the research facilities that studied the strange powers and ancient civilizations of the world. At a young age he was sent to Geffen in Rune-Midgard, the city of Magic, to take his first step towards becoming a Sage: studying magic and becoming a Mage first. It was in Geffen he met an adventurous thief boy who called himself Crow and although they butted heads at first due to Theo's strong moral compass, they somehow became best of friends. It was Crow who dragged Theo along with him on adventures and who eventually convinced Theo to choose his own path instead of blindly following in his parents' footsteps. So rather than becoming a Sage and returning home, Theo decided to become an adventuring Wizard, heeding King Tristan of Rune-Midgard's call for adventurers to help protect the kingdom. Crow became a Rogue and the two remained friends as they traveled around the kingdom, fighting monsters and exploring. It was in their twenties when the two became separated that Theo's life changed forever. Crow had caught wind of an interesting job that he wanted to do on his own. Something that wasn't unusual for them as Theo still often objected to Crow's line of work, so Theo let him go while he stayed behind in the town of Izlude. It would be the last time Theo ever saw his friend. Crow went missing after he left, leaving behind only very vague hints about where he was going and who he was doing the job for. Theo made it his personal mission to find out what had happened to Crow and he continued adventuring with only that one goal in mind. After years of trying to retrace Crow's steps, Theo finally found out that Crow's job had something to do with the Rekenber Corporation, the biggest corporation in the Schwarzwald Republic. Being from the Schwarzwald Republic, Theo was already familiar with the corporation as it had unofficial control over the Schwarzwald Republic and he also knew of the rumors of its shady past. He left Rune-Midgard to return to the Schwarzwald Republic and started investigating the Rekenber Corporation. His investigation led him to Lighthalzen where the Rekenber Corporation had their headquarters and also a laboratory that got half-burned down in an accident. Theo started looking into the Regenschrim Laboratory (also known as the Somatology Labs/Biolabs) due to many rumors that the laboratory had been involved with illegal human experimentation and his suspicion that Crow might have been tricked into going there. He even discovered a way into the closed-off laboratory, but any adventurers that went into it never came out again. Supposedly the laboratory was haunted and full of monsters. Knowing that he needed to become stronger first, Theo decided to put his investigation on hold in order to do that. He wanted to become a High Wizard so that he would be strong enough to face whatever the Biolabs had in store. In order to become a High Wizard, he would need to see the Valkyries (winged servants of the Gods who decide in matters of life and death and the afterlife) and be allowed to go to Valhalla and then be reborn into a next life, gaining otherwise unattainable power. So, at age 40, that's what Theo did. He went to the Valkyries and made his case. The Valkyries granted his wish and Theo was reborn, this time in Lighthalzen. He didn't remember his previous life at first, living obliviously with his new family until he turned 14 and started remembering. Most of what he remembered remained vague and distant except for two things: Crow and his purpose in his previous life. Upon remembering these things, Theo threw himself back into his quest zealously and worked hard at becoming a High Wizard. This time he was even more determined to bring the Rekenber Corporation to justice, to uncover what they had been doing and dragging it into public light. Having been raised in Lighthalzen this time around, he'd seen how the people suffer under the Rekenber Corporation's unofficial regime, especially in the segregated slums. Theo's purpose was no longer just about finding justice for a lost friend, but to get justice for everyone who suffered at Rekenber's hands. He found like-minded people in an underground organization that called itself the Secret Wing, an organization whose main objective was to bring down the Rekenber Corporation and liberate Schwarzwald. In order to help the Secret Wing, Theo became their inside man and infiltrated the Rekenber Corporation by becoming one of their employees. He became a representative for the Rekenber Company and traveled all over the world on their behalf while secretly forging connections and gathering powerful allies everywhere (in the hopes of eventually getting a party strong enough to go to Biolabs with) and passing information along to the Secret Wing.
personality Theo has always had a very strong moral compass and he's always been all about truth and justice. That hasn't changed. In his first life, he was plenty outspoken about it regardless of whether it would get him in trouble or not. He grew up among Sages then, studying ancient civilizations and he did take care to remember the war that almost destroyed the planet. So standing up for the right thing and not becoming part of the problem that was allowing the world to fall into corruption again has been an integral part of him. It's a part that still plays a role in his second life where he's still unable to let any injustice he sees go unrighted. Only this time he's learned to be a lot more subtle about it and not speak his mind so freely which is really important in his work as a spy. Although he's naturally the type of person to be pleasant and friendly, he uses his demeanor as a front in his line of work too. He purposefully makes himself as approachable and unassuming as possible in order to more easily gain information and trust while not divulging anything important about himself. Deceiving people is not something he enjoys doing, given that it goes against what he believes in, but he does it with the greater good in mind. Among his allies he's a bit more like he used to be in his past life: opinionated and bold. However, ultimately he's not the same person he used to be. After dealing with the Rekenber Corporation for so long, he's a little more pessimistic. As much as he would like to always presume the best of people, he has seen the darker side of humanity and he knows better. It has made him more distant and less quick to trust which he hides under a cheerful facade. Where he used to be brash and headstrong, he's more calculating and willing to make compromises where necessary, too. His world is no longer black and white, but one that has room for grays. One thing that has stayed completely consistent is Theo's strong sense of determination as is evidenced by the fact he has generally held the same purpose across two lifetimes. He hasn't given up on finding out just what exactly happened to Crow and he has no intention of ever letting it go. When he puts his mind to something, he wants to see it through until the end to the point where it can become an obsession that consumes his life. Which is exactly what happened with Crow's disappearance and his subsequent discovery of Rekenber Corp's shady business. Settling down and having kids or anything like that just isn't in the cards for him until he has fulfilled his self-assigned mission. Taking down the Rekenber Corp comes first and foremost, not just for himself and Crow, but to free the Schwarzwald Republic from their control to make it a true republic, so that the less fortunate people in Lighthalzen no longer have to live in the segregated slums and so that something like the human experimentation that went on in the Biolabs will never happen again. Another thing that has continued in his next life is the influence that Crow had on him. Coming into Geffen, Theo had been a sheltered, stuck-up bookworm and it was Crow who talked him into letting his curiosity for the world lead to a sense of adventure. After all, what's the point of learning so much about the world without truly living in it? Meeting Crow — who urged him to make his own decisions and not live in complacency — had changed him for the better, it made him more open-minded, independent and adventurous. Crow had monumental influence on his first life and in developing his sense of self, something that Theo is eternally grateful for. It's why he can't let Crow's disappearance go unsolved. Theo is reliable, focused and intelligent. For all that he became a High Wizard with his purpose in mind, he does genuinely enjoy learning and gaining knowledge of just about anything whether it be magic or the history of a place. He excels at doing research and that's also what makes him valuable to both the Secret Wing and the Rekenber Corporation. Although his magical abilities certainly help as well. He's a powerful wizard and he knows it. It makes him a confident and collected ally on the battlefield, able to keep his cool in the face of danger. He's not afraid of confrontation when it comes down to it. So in short: a giant nerd with a seemingly friendly and calm disposition who is secretly very passionate about Truth and Justice.
abilities As a wizard, Theo has learned elemental magic. There's a comprehensive list of his spells here, but what it boils down to is that he can wield some elements (ice, fire, earth, thunder, spirit) to varying degrees from a quick single-target spell to spells that have a wide area of effect that take time to cast. All of these spells require energy, some more than others, and will drain him when cast. When casting, a spell circle is always shown on the targeted area so this diminishes the chance of a surprise attack.
